ira is my dog. i got her about a year ago, when she was just a teeny tiny soft ball of fur. she was born on 13th of december in 2013, which makes her a little over one year old. we bought her from a family, not a shop or a shelter. she has two sisters and one brother, who live all over finland now.
i don't remember which one of the brown ones is ira. they looked very similar. |
when we went to take a look at the puppies in their home, there were two brown puppies and two white-brown ones. we were the first ones to go have a look at them so we kind of got to pick the one we liked most. they were all lovely and we didn't have a real preference. however, i wanted a brown one and my parents wanted one that is less energetic (although, we soon noticed that ira was not calm). the owner of the dogs was very knowing and she told us a lot of useful and important information. she wanted to make sure that her puppies were going to a good home. i respect that and am very grateful for both myself and ira.
in ira's home where she was born, she was called inari, but i wanted to change the name to ira. ira is a brown mittelspitz. she is very cute and pretty. she's quite smart, too.
ira's parents were both mittelspitzs. the white dog in the picture is ira's mother, who's owner we got ira from. she is a beautiful dog, don't you think? |
ira cried a little on the long car ride home, but the first night wasn't so bad. the next day, it seemed as if she had already forgotten she had any other home and a mother.
ira loves all people. she gets very excited when she sees someone. unfortunately, she barks at and sometimes even jumps on people. she doesn't know any other way to greet people. when she's really excited she might even bite you, but at least for me, it doesn't hurt because she doesn't bite strongly. it's her way of showing affection. however, i know it's not a good thing for her to bite, even if she's not angry or doesn't mean to hurt you. that's a thing we still have to work on. she also loves kissing people, and by kissing i mean licking your face and hands until you're all sticky. we've noticed that she quickly calms down if you kneel down and greet her by petting her and letting her sit on your lap. she needs to know that she is noticed. when we get home from work or somewhere else, we need to take her on our laps and hug her, reassuring we are there, and i guess it makes her feel safe, as well.
i'm really happy that i have such a lovely dog. i've always wanted one, but my mum and brother are a little allergic to dogs. fortunately, there haven't been any problems with having ira in the house. i remember seeing a mittelspitz when i was just a little kid, and somehow i've remembered the name of the breed all these years. i remember how cute the breed looked like so i suggested it to my parents when they finally started to plan getting a dog. dad was a little skeptical about having a dog, but ira quickly grew on him. we've all become incredibly attached to ira and she is definitely a member of the family now. ♥
